Electrifying Aurora

As part of the 12th edition of the Montréal/New Musics (MNM) International festival, focusing on “Music and Images”, this concert invites us to immerse ourselves in the highly personal and eclectic musical and visual universe of Quebec composer Nicole Lizée. The programme features works by Lizée, Philippe Macnab-Séguin and Margareta Jeric.

In much of her work, Nicole Lizée’s music interacts with visual supports that stimulate it by using existing films or videos of her own making. An very unique composer, she draws inspiration as much from avant-garde concert music and its various currents, as from certain trends in alternative pop. This unique creator offers us a playful and highly imaginative universe, including both melodic elements and rhythmic pulsations.

The three works on the programme, Televisioniist, 8-Bit Noir and Dancist, use videos created by the composer. Between these three pieces, two new works commissioned by the SMCQ to young composer Philippe Macnab-Séguin (Fernand-Lindsay Prix d’Europe 2023) and Margareta Jeric, that is also both use a visual medium.

A stimulating and electrifying concert with the Ensemble de la SMCQ conducted by Cristian Gort and featuring two of its members, Pamela Reimer on piano and Marie-Hélène Breault on flute, as soloists.

Come feast your eyes and ears at the heart of the MNM festival, from February 14 to March 2, 2025. Full line-up announced autumn 2024.
